Birds > Anseriformes > Common Pochard Aythya ferina

info

A medium-sized duck, with a weight of about one kilogram and a wingspan of approximately 70 cm. I had the pleasure to photograph common pochards while taking pictures of tufted ducks, in breeding ponds. When you watch the common pochard an amazing view seems to be its blood-red eye against the brown neck. Pochards, though quite skittish, are much more commonly found than tufted ducks. There will probably be a lot of occasions to complete the gallery presented to you.

Good camouflage, a large population of the Common Pochard, but, unfortunately, too little light. Cloudy , rainy. I added a few pictures, but they were not as good as I wanted, in the light of the morning sun. Still, I could quietly observe the courtship of Brands and, most importantly for this meeting, I recorded the voices of birds photographed.

While I was shooting black-necked grebes, finally, after a few years  I encountered common pochards. I could watch them from the least possible distance and it was really interesting. Although it did not last long, my best photos of the common pochards were created. The male and two females floating near the black-necked grebes and coots began to behave similarly and were not skittish. The gallery has been rebuilt.

The gallery of the common Pochard did not belong to the documentary galleries, but this time some interesting photos of the brands were taken and the gallery had to be rebuilt. The Pochard came very close to the shelter (Halina - thanks-link). One female and 3-4 males competing for it males. There were so many photos that it was difficult to choose. May it always be so!
