Birds > Charadriiformes > South American tern Sterna hirundinacea

info

Many dynamic photos of the South American tern were taken in the port in Ushuaia. Terns had founded their noisy colony on a ship stranded on shallows. There were dozens of them, and the whole difficulty consisted in capturing them in flight in a sharp, dynamic picture. Frankly speaking it is difficult to spot the differences between an Arctic, Antarctic and South American tern. The verdict of local ornithologists was such and therefore a gallery of the South American tern has been created, although before I was considering introducing some changes to the gallery of the Arctic tern. The size and behavior of these species is so similar, especially when observed in colonies, that one can hardly differentiate between them.
