Birds > Procellariiformes > Mediterranean shearwater Puffinus yelkouan

info

Mediterierranean shearwater undoubtedly are very difficult to immortalise in photographs. They keep away from the shore and their group flights are very dynamic. However, I witnessed some progress to my collection of photographs of this species. In my last attempt at photographing these birds I managed to take just several photos of them in difficult conditions caused by windy weather and distance. In Bosphorous it was much easier, although only on one occasion did a group of these birds took a flight near enough to make it possible to take photos demonstrating the bird in detail. There many Shearwaters to be found in the vicinity of Instanbul.  Every couple of minutes a group of Shearwaters flied over your head. Unfortunately, the distance was too big and my lens was only of 400 focal length. Despite this inconvenience, the photos of the Shearwater presented here are not only of higher quality but also of greater number than my collection of the Fluttering Shearwater. These photos have only documentary value. Mediterierranean shearwater reach the weight of half a kilogram and the wingspan of 90 cm. Although I saw them many times, the encounter last not more than a few second. They immediately vanished on the horizon. To photograph them at a smaller distance, you have to approach them closely (as you do when photographing Atlantic Puffins and Common Shugs. Maybe in the future I will be given another chance to meet them.
