Sadly, bullfinches in Poland can be seen only in winter, and watching this species is becoming increasingly difficult. My first photograph of a bullfinch was, as I call it, a contact photo, or a documentary photo. After just one snap the contact was lost. Bullfinches are not hard to notice in winter, due to the characteristic red plumage of males. Sadly, despite of my numerous walks, watching attempts and setting feeders I didn’t manage to take any more photos, which would show the charm of this bird. One little hint, in a parking lot, where a flock of bullfinches was supposed to feed, I managed to take a few good pictures, which radically changed my gallery devoted to this species. The lighting conditions could have been better, and the constant movement in the parking lot scared the birds, but the final effect was satisfactory. The bullfinch is a small bird, with a weight of up to 30 g, and the wingspan of less than 30 cm. Due to its charm and difficulties I experience while photographing it, I will definitely go back to this bird at the first possible opportunity. Hard, contrast light makes this task a lot more difficult.

A few pictures taken in Sweden, during a break while being on the evening-morning look-out for heather cocks, enrich this gallery of the bullfinch. Bullfinches were accompanied by tits, common redpolls and common chaffinches.

I have added only one new picture of the bullfinch but it was my closest encounter with this bird. An hour after sunrise a bullfinch sat on a spruce next to my balcony at hotel in Zakopane. The light was too little and the picture was taken without a tripod, "hand-held", what had impact on its quality. But the lush verdure of the spruce in contrast to the colors of the bullfinch is so attractive that it has to find its place in my virtual diary to commemorate this meeting.

Bullfinches were sitting nearby the Common Redpoll. Despite the new photos, the gallery still does not have a very good category. Well, not this time again …
