Birds > Passerine > Brambling Fringilla montifringilla

info

This time the photos were taken in a vast beautiful park. The joy of a new species was eclipsed by the quality of images. Bramblings were preying in the bushy undergrowth together with chaffinches. Unfortunately the distance , taking into account the small size of the birds, was too long to take pictures of better quality. So not only they needed to be framed significantly, but also the light was insufficient. Plumage colors of the bramblings feeding on litter made them almost invisible. The brambling when motionless was indistinguishable and it was impossible to spot them. Only from a distance of several meters it could be seen, especially when it moved. Trying to make a selection of photos for the gallery at first glance I could not see any bird in the picture. Only after examining it closely I was able to see them. An additional difficulty in this open-air session was the school trip of children, which certainly did not know how to behave in the park/forest. They scared all the living around. I walked away to the edge of the park, but it did not help much. So these pictures are published just to record the species and have documentary value. Will the opportunity to take better pictures arise? Time will tell. Bramblings are winter visitors to Poland so I was lucky to be able to take pictures in the initial period of their migration (the beginning of October). Looking at photos of other photographers that are put on the Internet there is definitely a winter background in their pictures. Thus some of the birds spend winter in our country, especially in the western parts. Last winter when I was feeding birds I hoped to take pictures of bramblings, grosbeaks. Unfortunately, to the bird feeder arrived tits, Eurasian collared doves and many of sparrows, and Eurasian tree sparrows. I looked around and found out the reason for this state. Almost every neighbor had a feeder and was feeding birds. The scale was so large that once birds got used to the feeders they do not seek other feeding sites. Apparently in my area they did not occur. Size and behavior of the brambling reminds a chaffinch. Wingspan is less than 30cm, and it weighs no more than 30g.

Changes in this gallery at last! Previous pictures of bramblings against dried leaves and grass had presented this bird in a rather illegible way. Of course I leave some of them in the gallery, but I also add a few new ones. I got so absorbed in my photographing attempts that I didn’t have enough time to take some pictures of common redpolls, which were also present in the vicinity. It’s a pity, as my previous photos initiating the gallery of this species were taken in winter scenery, near a bird feeder in Canada, and are quite monotonous. They would bring a new quality in presenting this species.

You can see a radical qualitative change of photos in the gallery of the brambling on my website. They were quite common there, especially their distinctive voice could be often heard. Sometimes they were very skittish but in small settlements in Finland their vigilance decreased so that I could take a lot of interesting pictures, which replaced the existing content of the modest gallery of the bird. There were also no problems with recording of their voice. Finally, the gallery has changed its documentary nature. I hope it is still possible to increase its content with the dynamic shots of these birds. We will see in the future. All in all such considerable changes in quality of my galleries always make me happy – be welcomed.

When I was taking photos of Siberian accentor I had the opportunity to take several photos of bramblings, that I have added to the gallery to replace old ones.
