Birds > Passerine > Eurasian Penduline Tit Remiz pendulinus

info

I set up the gallery presenting this Bird, because these were the first photos of this species I had taken. I cannot hide – there are few reasons for feeling satisfied with the quality of these pictures. I hope that this is only for a short time. I am determined to make some changes and expand the gallery. The Eurasian Penduline Tit itself has nothing special in its looks that would make it an outstanding figure among the sparrow family. However, its nest must be held in high esteem and arouses admiration for this tiny builder. I often happened to visits places that it inhabits, but I never managed to spot it. Immortalising the process of its nest building is in my photographing agenda.  It is a difficult task, because taking pictures would have to last for the period of over several weeks to make an interesting material.  I am not the only person interested in the building skills that this bird has. The ornithologists who coined the name for the species long ago appreciated these skills by choosing the Latin word for artisan. In the past, I saw its abandoned nests, which I found quite impressive taking into account the bird’s size. The Eurasian Penduline Tit weighs up to 10 grams and its wingspan is some dozen cm. It is really tiny even in comparison with the sparrow. The elaborate structure of the net is all the more surprising. I hope to fulfil my plans to take such photos in the future.

Finally! There is progress in presenting a Eurasian Penduline Tit on my website. Previous photos in my initial gallery on my web page go to the archives and have been replaced by new, different and more interesting photos. This is still not what I wish myself for this little builder, but progress is considerable. Adult Penduline Tits rarely showed. I think that probably birds were busy incubating eggs for the second time this year. On a nearby willow quiet tweets of young Penduline Tits were clearly heard. It wasn’t a problem to take a photo of them. Six young Penduline Tits were  together in a group, and  didn't fly too far. During two attempts I managed to record the sound but, unfortunately, it was  done from a large distance and the audio also includes the sounds of other inhabitants of reeds. After cleaning the soundtrack the audio material is not of satisfactory quality. I’ll need to work at it later. I added photos of two different nests of Penduline Tits. I think next year I’ll have an opportunity to observe how a Penduline Tit’s nest is built and change the pictures presented here dramatically, especially that this time I photographed  young Peduline Tits in the intense light of a newly beginning  sweltering day.

During my fourth encounter with the Eurasian penduline tit I took some photos capturing the process of building their nest. A little constructor every now and again appeared with some building material and with huge energy and determination built it into its nest. The pictures are so interesting that the gallery has been remodeled.

After several hours of lying down and photographing shovelers and pochards it was difficult to start collecting camouflage nets and mats. Unfortunately, years go by and it is becoming harder and harder to withstand such difficulties. We were sitting on the shore of a small lake (greetings to Jacek), and at a distance of several meters a male penduline tit was beautifully singing in sparse, last year’s overwater vegetation. We couldn’t have missed it…
