Birds > Passerine > European Robin Erithacus rubecula

info

I guess the best picture of a Robin I took in a temperature of -10°C. I wished then, that he would cooperate when I spotted him in my garden. But, maybe because of that I will remember the freezing cold, which made the Robin, despite the fact I was not masked, wisely approach the seed lying only around 6-8 metres from me, allowing me to take such pictures. The situation was impeded by an Eurasian Wren, which came to the conclusion that the seed was lying on its territory and unsuccessfully tried to scare Tits and the Robin away. Robin himself looked like most of the birds during this time of a year, like a round donut with thin legs. During the Summer he does not have to hide from the cold and his figure is much slimmer. Its size is smaller than Sparrow's. Its weight is less than 20 grams with a wingspan of around 20 centimeters. It can even be spotted in a larger gardens and parks.

The recently uploaded photos of the European robin were taken on my way back from an unsuccessful photography session of red deer during their rut. Not far from the hide among a heap of branches next to a Eurasian wren there was a European robin. It’s radically different from the Eurasian wren in behavior. The wren was moving all the time, squatting and checking my reflexes and the speed of my autofocus. The robin, once it sat down, it sat still totally posing for me. You could take whole series of pictures, even in poor light. A drawback of such behavior was the fact that once the robin sat down hidden behind some branch, you had to wait for about a quarter for it to change the place of its posing so that you could continue taking photos. European robins, when photographed in warm months, especially when observed in months when they are raising their young, are tiny, fragile birdies. During periods of winter and cold they look like downy balls, using the air between their feathers as a layer insulating them from the cold. This way a few pictures were uploaded in September 2013 while waiting for the red-breasted flycatcher, the tree pipit….

On my way back from lake Morskie Oko, just a few meters from the track I saw a robin. It was a beautiful picturesque place where the robin poses, not afraid of tourists. I set the tripod and took one but very interesting  picture bringing variety to my gallery of this species.

The photo-gallery has been renewed. This happened thanks to a really close encounter with a robin in a park in Ireland. Robin approached so close that I could no longer take sharp images (the lens needs minimum 4.5 meters to focus). So many good pictures were taken that it was necessary to make changes in the gallery.

There were many robins in front of the hide, so it was just impossible not to add a few pictures of them to the gallery.

It was not the European Robin that was supposed to be photographed that day, but since it had such craving for media attention, it had to be used, especially since the Robin gallery, so far, was not a spectacular one. Some interesting photos were taken and the gallery was rebuilt and supplemented with photos that were taken between the last reconstruction of the gallery. The radical reconstruction of the gallery should be presented in the news.
