Birds > Passerine > European Greenfinch Chloris chloris

info

If, observing the fields and seeing „squadrons” of passerine birds, you can’t notice any bright „goldfinch-like” accents, it is very likely that you see European greenfinches. I observed them on a field with ripe rapeseed. From a greater distance they can be easily mistaken for sparrows as in size both species are nearly identical, at close range however you can see their olive charm. Greenfinches weigh about 30 g, with a wingspan of less than 30 centimeters. If you behave peacefully, even without any camouflage, you will be able to take decent photographs, not to mention winter, when during severe frosts they occur on trees and bushes of urban areas, and photographing them from a distance of 7-8 meters is not a problem.

I have added a few pictures of the Greenfinch harassed by the Yellow Wagtail. The Greenfinch suddenly appeared on the shore of the lake to quench its thirst. The Wagtail did not accept the company of other birds, including the Sedge Warbler. There were several dynamic scenes which brought variety into the gallery of this species. A few random pictures were taken during some of my trips. They were an incentive to reorganize the gallery.

For the last trips created a few random pictures, which were a pretext to organize galleries and its reconstruction.

Finally I had the opportunity to introduce radical changes in the gallery of European greenfinch. In the lookouts arranged for woodpeckers greenfinches were quite frequent visitors. This gallery evolved from passing grade into four-star and goes to the news.

I added a few pictures of the greenfinch taken at the feeder, or actually at the feeder lookout point. The birds were so accustomed to human presence that only when we arrived at the lookout point was the number of birds increasing minute by minute. Just after we scattered seeds for birds and entered the lookout in a few minutes we had the birds within 3-5 meters. Of course, we had to wait a little bit longer for redpolls or hawfinches, and be lucky, but nuthatches, great spotted woodpeckers, middle spotted woodpeckers, blue tits, great tits sometimes appeared after a few seconds. Halina, thank you for your invitation to the feeder lookout. Great place with many birds, hours pass quickly on such observations when taking photographs. This is how the photographic material was created to improve several galleries.

A few photos taken in winter scenery add variety to the existing gallery of the European greenfinch on my website.
