The northern house martin is similar to the barn swallow in size. It has a weight of about 20 g, and a wingspan of approximately 30 centimeters. This species often builds nests on buildings. It uses mud and grass to build its nest, which is located in a dry and sheltered place. The bird has a flying pattern as dynamic as the flying pattern of the barn swallow. It eats insects caught in flight. Taking the summer inconveniences caused by mosquitos into account, this bird is very helpful in fighting them.

Six years and 63 days have passed with no changes in the martin's documentary gallery. My first note put in the information to this gallery seems to be quite amusing to me now. A lot has changed during these six years, because at that time these were my very beginnings with nature photography, what can be seen as well in the descriptions as in the documentary photos from that period. I have often observed flying martins over these years, I have seen them at nests, but somehow there was lack of time or enthusiasm for this species. Well, how to take interesting photos of these specific birds, when they are sitting on wires, against walls? I cannot find another solution. To take dynamic pictures, with an interesting color background it is really difficult and it takes time. So far, during the holiday in Bulgaria I could observe so many northern house-martins that the previous three documentary photos finally go to the archive. The gallery has become much more interesting, with my own soundtrack of martins. It is still not very good, it is needed to spend more time on watching them, but these are no longer documentary photos...
