Birds > Accipitriformes > Marsh harrier Circus aeruginosus

info

The harrier belongs to those birds, which I haven’t managed to photograph and observe to the extent that would satisfy my appetite in this regard. The pictures taken are more the result of an accident than a conscious and planned approach. The marsh harrier is our native medium-sized bird of prey, as its weight does not exceed 0.7 kg, and its wingspan is about 1.2 meters. Let’s hope that this gallery will radically change with time.

A few photos added in August, those are still photos taken accidentally while shooting waders on marshy meadow. Marsh harrier made circles leisurely, in a majestic way, but too far away to take photo of a better quality. Every now and then it was falling into the bushes and attacking. Unfortunately, it was impossible to say from my perspective, what was the efficiency. It was natural that all the birds showed respect for harrier which came flying quietly, but while photographing I suddenly noticed all the birds fleeing in panic. I thought that finally harrier flew up very close and it was an opportunity to take an interesting picture, but what a disappointment... I leaned out of my hideout and saw a gray heron glide a few feet above the ground. Apparently they have a similar reputation as storks and harriers spreading terror among the smaller birds.

Several accidentally taken pictures while photographing other spices, added to the gallery of the western marsh harrier. The gallery was slightly rebuilt, but still of the documentary quality.

Finally a radical change has occurred in the marsh-harrier’s gallery on my website. The documentary gallery was upgraded to four-star quality, so in my nomenclature very good. One weekend was enough to make such a changes. While shooting ferruginous pochards, near the ducks two marsh-harriers could be seen in the reed. I was problematic to take interesting photos through the reeds, but there was no problem recording the voice of the harrier. The pictures were taken in the lookout point where the bird flew up an hour before sunset, where I was waiting the whole day for it. But it was worth waiting...

The Red Kite wasn't the only one which showed up in front of the shelter. The female Marsh Harrier always stayed away, but the male sat in front of the shelter and a few pictures I was taken. The gallery was completed with new photos.
