I had the opportunity to observe Egyptian vultures on Fuerteventura, but from a significant distance, which made it impossible for me to take even a documentary picture. The birds did not come to our hide. We had to move to another place in order to see them. A few hours of driving across the beautiful Turkey, and a few photo breaks on the way of course, were abundant with pictures of, inter alia, the western rock nuthatch. Early the next morning we went to a place where we managed to take first pictures. The birds were very skittish and we had to use converters to photograph them. Egyptian vultures live in Europe, Asia and Africa. They belong to very rare species, and their world’s population is becoming smaller and smaller. They can look for food in rubbish dumps. The wingspan of an Egyptian vulture does not exceed 1.8 m, with a weight of about 2 kg. I managed to take photos of both adult and juvenile specimens, as well as the birds in flight. No doubt, there are reasons to be satisfied, as I managed to create a varied gallery of such an interesting and rare bird as the Egyptian vulture.
Last minute news – 06/2018 – Spain
It was the Egyptian vulture and the red kite for which I went to the vulture hide again. Unfortunately, the red kite did not grace us with its presence. Egyptian vultures (two) were preying practically all day long. Regretfully, the light was too intense and the distance too far to take good photos. Luckily, from time to time, a fox appeared, which made the vulture fly up for a moment, and that was the time when the best pictures were taken. Finally, after five years, the gallery of the Egyptian vulture has been remodeled and it gets into the news section.
