There are living 5 species of dippers in the world. The dipper has to be made of many of my favorite bird species and when leaving them for Ecuador it was on my iron list of species to photograph. I always admire how they move and dive for food. It was not possible to photograph the American dipper in Costa Rica. We tried mountain rivers several times, but nothing came of it until the last day. On this day, an hour before sunset-it is! Appeared dipper!. We thought it was a bird and the shots keep getting better. In the initial phase it was difficult to continue our approach to the shore and we turned back. We decided to wait on the left riverbank for a dippe, that was connected to what we were waiting for. It flew closer and posed for our photos. The best photos of the White-capped dipper were then taken. There was not enough light that day, the photographing and our entire trip were coming to an end, and here are these photos, such a place at the end of our trips! White-capped dipper goes to the news.
Last minute news-10/2025-Peru
The first encounter with torrent ducks took place in Ecuador. The photo session was challenging — to capture even a few decent shots, I had to run quite a bit along the river. In Peru it was somewhat easier. The ducks could be photographed in the section of the river flowing through the town of Aguas Calientes. Accustomed to human presence, they allowed for a slightly closer approach. This time, however, the biggest challenge was the light — late afternoon and the approaching sunset made it difficult to achieve truly sharp images. Nevertheless, I managed to take some interesting photos of these remarkable birds. The gallery has been redesigned so that its core now consists of photographs taken in Peru.
While photographing, I was also able to capture the White-capped Dipper, although in this case the situation was the opposite of that with the torrent ducks. The bird appeared only briefly, at a considerable distance, and is much smaller than the ducks. It was too dark to use a teleconverter, but I still added a few photos of this species to the gallery.
This text summarizes the updates in the dipper and torrent duck galleries following the visit to Peru.
