Birds > Charadriiformes > Wood Sandpiper Tringa glareola

info

Pictures of the Wood Sandpiper were made while photographing White-winged tern. Unfortunately, the distance and the light left much to wish for. So, those pictures initiate the gallery, but are documentary in their value. There will come the time to photograph it in the morning light from a smaller distance and fund this gallery. Wood Sandpipers live on wet lands, nesting on the ground. Sandpiper’s weight is around 75 grams with a wingspan of 75 centimeters.

I was fortunate to find such an interesting place and hide so efficiently that wood sandpiper felt enough comfortable to approach even too close, at least to the distance that the lens was not able to focus properly, not to mention that the wood sandpiper did not fit within the frame, despite its diminutive size. As befits a plovers family those waders are very skittish and any reason make them escape. Fortunately they kept returning to let me take a picture of them, and in my case those photos are the best of this species. So, there is a progress in the presentation of this species, we hope that this is not the end.

The wood sandpiper is another species which I managed to observe during my stay on Malta during its flight to Europe (see the text about the wood warbler). I have uploaded a few pictures which introduce some variety into the previous gallery.

In expect on the pectroral sandpiper created several pictures of wood sandpiper. The gallery was rebuilt.

Finally, after 6 years, there was a quite unexpected meeting with the Wood Sandpiper. The bird appeared in front of my lens for a moment and the light was good on that day, so managed to take some good photos. The gallery has been rebuilt.
