Black-bellied sandgrouses in terms of size are similar to pigeons, although they are slightly bigger. They are very skittish. They were flying in a small flock, checking the area before landing. Once when I was quietly coming closer almost on my knees, surrounded by dried bushes, I managed to take a few pictures of this species that start the new gallery. Here are also the photos of flying birds that complete my report on my first encounter with this bird.

The Black-billed Gull is common in New Zealand. Sometimes I could take photos from the distance of less than 1-1.5 meters using 50 millimeter lens. It can be only compared to our Black-headed Gull that are abundant at Polish seaside. The Black-billed Gull is smaller a bit, its weight does not exceed 270 grams and a wingspan of 90 centimeters. This Gull is known to be endemic to New Zealand. It preyed on the seashore among oystercatchers and white-fronted terns. Dobre |
Black-billed Koel
Cuculiformes
I haven’t managed to find much information about this bird, apart from the fact that it can be found in Indonesia and Australia. It is a little smaller than the raven. I have come across this bird only once and this gallery is another gallery of one shot. However the combination of yellow fruit, the bird’s black or navy blue plumage and its red eye creates an interesting effect. Dobre |
