Alphabetical list

This gallery was created due to the fact that a taxi did not arrive on time. We finished photographing caracaras on the outskirts of a waste dump and we stepped onto a dirt road, where a taxi was to pick us up. On the right side of the road  the ground was lower so that we had tree branches  at our eyes’ level. It is where swallows were sitting. Thus I created my sixth gallery of swallows, and, which is funny, probably the most interesting one. Of course I had to reach Ushuaia, but the rest was a piece of cake. The bird occurs in Argentina and Chile.

Quite an unusual exterior compared to my previous photography experience. A few minutes of driving in a taxi from Ushuaia, in order to see not even dozens but hundreds of caracaras in three species, on the outskirts of a garbage dump. The most popular species was the southern crested caracara. It was the biggest and the strongest of all. The second most numerous species was the chimango caracara. The least numerous species was the white-throated caracara. It was scarce and least active.

It occurs in southern and eastern Asia. In the lowland part of Thailand, in the vicinity of water reservoirs it was a commonly  occurring species. There were no problems with taking many interesting pictures for this vast gallery. Moreover, in some places the bird wasn’t so skittish, which enabled me to take full frame photos of it, even from the car. It’s a pity they were in their non-breeding plumage. Their breeding plumage is much prettier – rust-colored, purple and white. Their wingspan does not exceed 90 cm.

Chinstrap penguin was the first which I encountered during my expedition to Antarctica. A couple of penguins took a rest on the drifting ice. All the trip looked like that. There were some opportunities to watch the individuals or a small colony of penguins, but I could not see the whole chinstrap penguin rookery. For these reasons this gallery does not have the sound recordings, but by the images of the beautiful Antarctic environment it also makes an interesting variety and has its unique charm.

Some good photos were taken at sunrise, in places where we looked for an Eurasian thick-knee. I could watch chukar partridge a few times but as befits the birds in Cyprus, they were very skittish. Well, instead of the Eurasian thick-knee here we have the chukar for now.
