Calandra Lark
Passerine

While I was sitting in an absolute darkness in a bee-eater's watching booth, right before the sunrise he was the only one to keep me company with his singing. In the morning, like our skylark, he would sit on a standing out rock and sing with engagement throughout whole neighbourhood. While I was recording other sounds he interrupted the rightful recording artists, but how was he supposed to know about his burdensome impact. He was such a frequent visitor that there was no problem with catching him “on tape”, he simply always performed in the background.

California Quail
Galliformes

California quails typically inhabit the western part of the United States and Canada. It was introduced in New Zealand in 1860. I was successful to meet and take photos of this bird in the northern part of the southern island. I saw it only once and only at dawn. The quail is a tiny-sized bird. It never weighs more than 180 grams. It is up to 30 centimetres long. It belongs to the family of galliformes. I was really delighted to meet this species, as the representatives of the family are presented in just several pictures in my gallery.

Canada goose
Anseriformes

Though it might seem a bit exotic and unusual to us it will most likely blend in our landscape and become common. Canada Geese are very dynamic and effective evasive species. In Poland I saw them couple of times and in their behavior they start to resemble swans. They do not fear people. Sometimes, during winter feeding they approach on a very close distance. Let's add that there are few younglings in one breeding (like with swans) and they are not small birds, and their steady expansion in our country will become a fact.

Bustards

Another representative of the bustard family goes to my gallery. Having next representative of bustards in my collection it is the real reason for joy for me. Even though I publish few pictures and they are only of a documentary value but I am really glad and satisfied with such a short observation of the bird in its natural environment. But why it is so important species, although among four representatives of bustards on my website this gallery is the least numerous and its quality is the lowest?

Canary Islands Chiffchaff
Passerine

The photos of the Canary Islands chiffchaff were taken in Tenerife. Unfortunately, this is the only new species that was taken during my stay on the island and its gallery could be settled, but yet with my own sound recording.

Canary Islands stonechat
Passerine

I came across african blue tits and canary islands stonechat in the same place at the same time. Although I tried to take more photos of this bird, it appeared only once and as a result these images are presented. I am glad that I was able to photograph it as Fuerteventura was the Island chosen by the canary islands stonechat for their habitat from all the Canary Islands. At first glance the birds are difficult to distinguish from each other. Only when we compare images of birds we can note the differences.

Hummingbirds

Photographing hummingbirds in Mexico was a huge disappointment for me. The fauna of Mexico includes 58 species of hummingbirds, 13 of which are endemic. In total, there are over 350 species of hummingbirds in the world. It was not a typical birding trip, but I hoped that in a country with such a large number of hummingbird species, there would be a place where they are fed from special drinkers bird feeder and only there good photos could be taken, like in Cuba or Costa Rica.
