Birds > Charadriiformes > Lesser Sand-Plover Charadrius mongolus

info

In the environment depicted in the description of the spoon-billed sandpiper there were thousands of birds which would fly in enormous flocks of hundreds of specimens between shallow water reservoirs.   The same was with great knots, Eurasian curlews and the three species of plovers. Sometimes there were so many of them that it was hard to choose what to photograph. The birds, sitting peacefully on dams, often cut the distance to us significantly. Apart from plovers we were approached by stilts, great knots and sandpipers… It’s a pity that in such an intriguing place we did not have a whole day for photographing. Especially that the people working with the service of reservoirs for obtaining salt made the task easier for us. The birds, accustomed to humans’ presence, were not so skittish and if we had stayed there for a few days we would have had many interesting encounters combined with taking not less interesting pictures.
Last minute news - 01/2019 Egypt
It was quite unusual in Egypt. On the beach on the Arab's Gulf it happened to me that I found a few plovers, lesser sand plovers and greater sand plovers, well camouflaged on a stony beach. I mean "it happened to me", because in this area of Egypt I did not see any gulls nor other birds by the sea. I managed to find a small group of plovers only because of my determination and patience when I was walking along the seaside. Otherwise I would have been content with the house crow, the rock pigeon and the white-spectacled bulbul.
