info

Although there were two encounters with the Pallas’s grasshopper-warbler in Thailand, I did not manage to take a satisfactory photo. Grasshopper-warblers were always very skittish and appeared only for a fraction of a second. On rice fields nearby the road there was a swampy dip, which was covered by lush and dense vegetation. In peace and silence we were standing by that clump awaiting the grasshopper-warbler. An interesting thing is that on such a small area we could observe several bird species, which looked from behind the plants from time to time. Quite funnily, one reacts to any movement and presses the shutter button automatically when any bird appears. That’s what happened this time. I press the shutter button and check the camera screen and I can see… a crake. It was not a new species for me and the picture was of rather poor quality, so I haven’t uploaded it in my gallery, but my surprise was great. The grasshopper-warbler was hopping from one twig to another out of my eyes’ reach. Outside we could see only moving leaves. This enabled us to predict where the grasshopper-warbler would potentially appear next. That is how the pictures presented here were taken.
Last minute news-06/2016-Mongolia
Well, this time I was unlucky again. The first documentary photos from Thailand have been completed with documentary pictures from Mongolia. What is surprising, it’s the place where I tried to photograph the Pallas’s grasshopper warbler. At the Edge of the Gobi Desert was a watering hole. Around it there was stony ground with few tufts of grass with sharply ended leaves. The Pallas’s grasshopper warbler was jumping, or actually moving, from one to another. Unfortunately it did not allow us for a distance closer than a dozen or so meters, and as it does not belong to large birds, the quality of these pictures is documentary. Well, who knows, maybe this time, according to the saying “third time lucky” there will be a chance to take better photos of this warbler in the future.
