Black-crested Coquette
Hummingbirds

Although I managed to capture many species of hummingbirds, you can find there one description of all 22 species photographed in Costa Rica together. This time my expedition took longer and the light was better, I had therefore an opportunity to take many dynamic pictures. It is interesting that driving around Costa Rica after traveling several kilometers there were species of hummingbirds completely different from those we could observe earlier.

Black-crowned night heron
Casuariiformes

Black-crowned night heron, probably the only heron that is said to feed at night. Allegedly, because we watched them feeding also at noon when it was hot. But, as it was our first encounter with a representative of this species we woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning to be ready at 3 o'clock and waited in the darkness  for black-crowned night herons to arrive.  And it was worth it. Around 3:30 the first bird appeared. Then second, third, fourth ... It was still very dark, and without the light of the lantern standing nearby there would be nothing to see.

In Spain it is quite common and there were no problems with photographing this bird. It was worse with the sound, because the day I photographed it was very windy and the soundtrack leaves much to be desired.

Black-faced Cuckooshrike

Two meetings have resulted in the presented images. The Black-faced Cuckooshrike is a medium sized bird. Its body length is about 33 cm. It occurs in Australia and New Guinea. It is omnivorous: eats fruit, seeds, but also insects and invertebrates. The “face” of the juveniles after leaving the nest is not so well formed as the adults have. It is much smaller. Looking at the presented pictures I guess it happened to me to come across and photograph both: an adult  and the young. What is interesting, this species is protected in Australia.

Black-faced ibis
Casuariiformes

Black-faced ibises were photographed in Patagonia in three places. The first two locations were on the outskirts of Ushuaia, where they were foraging majestically in the grass. On a cruise while shooting cormorants I had the next opportunity to watch them. I could see ibises incubating eggs in a hollow of a rock. They are quite big. They can reach a weight of 1.5 kilogram, with a wingspan of about 1.1 meters.

Black-faced Sandgrouse
Sandgrouse

There are many reasons to be satisfied after my returning from Tanzania. One of them are new galleries of sandgrouses. I remember how hard it was to photograph my first sandgrouses in Fuerteventura or Pallas's Sandgrouse in Mongolia, then taking photos of those birds in Tanzania was a piece of cake. Well, maybe not just like that, because you have to find them, but when driving all day, watching closely it is possible as you can see. It did not happen too often, but only when the birds were found  they made an easy object for us to photograph at least for a moment.
