The Black-baked Gull is much bigger than Red-billed Gull and Black-billed Gull. Its weight comes to 1.4 kilogram with a wingspan of less than 1.5 meters. It was quite common but I could not come closer as it was more timid than others photographed seagulls. Apart from Australia and New Zealand, where I had the pleasure to take those photos, it also occurs in Africa and South America.

In its behavior it resembled our treecreepers. It moved around tree trunks quite swiftly and deftly, searching cracks in bark for insects. It is bigger than our treecreeper, as it weighs about 30 grams. It occurs in warm, humid forests of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Dostateczne |

Black-bellied Hummingbird
Hummingbirds
Although I managed to capture many species of hummingbirds, you can find there one description of all 22 species photographed in Costa Rica together. This time my expedition took longer and the light was better, I had therefore an opportunity to take many dynamic pictures. It is interesting that driving around Costa Rica after traveling several kilometers there were species of hummingbirds completely different from those we could observe earlier. Dobre |
Black-bellied sandgrouse
Sandgrouse
Black-bellied sandgrouses in terms of size are similar to pigeons, although they are slightly bigger. They are very skittish. They were flying in a small flock, checking the area before landing. Once when I was quietly coming closer almost on my knees, surrounded by dried bushes, I managed to take a few pictures of this species that start the new gallery. Here are also the photos of flying birds that complete my report on my first encounter with this bird. Dokumentacyjne |

Black-billed gull
Charadriiformes
The Black-billed Gull is common in New Zealand. Sometimes I could take photos from the distance of less than 1-1.5 meters using 50 millimeter lens. It can be only compared to our Black-headed Gull that are abundant at Polish seaside. The Black-billed Gull is smaller a bit, its weight does not exceed 270 grams and a wingspan of 90 centimeters. This Gull is known to be endemic to New Zealand. It preyed on the seashore among oystercatchers and white-fronted terns. Dobre |
