Much smaller than the mallard, its weight is about half a kilogram with wingspan of about 0.7 meter. It is a filigree posture and it is difficult to find because its population in Poland is estimated at about 100 pairs. However, another representative of the Polish fauna goes to my photogallery.

The ferruginous pygmy owl lives on Costa Rica in a much different environment from our Eurasian pygmy owl. We stop the car at around noon on a non-hardened road among haphazardly situated dwellings.  There are single buildings and large trees around us. The temperature is close to 30 degrees C, humidity is high. The guide is walking around looking out for owls in tree tops. Suddenly he points at a place where an owl is. The first shots are taken. After a while another owl flies over.

A few hundred meters from the place I took photos of the ochre-collared piculet I was also able to take pictures of field flickers. They were not too skittish so I could shoot them in the trees as well as in the grassland. They behaved just like our European green woodpeckers. Field flickers belong to mid-size birds. They weigh no more than 200 grams, with a wingspan of about 40 cm.

In winter, for a watchful observer of bushes and trees in cities, it is quite easy to photograph, especially in places, where there are some fruit of rowan, for instance, left for the winter. A photo of this bird taken from a close distance can show its whole charm and beauty. Not only do they move into cities during winter, but also occur in flocks. The fieldfare belongs to medium-sized birds. Its body mass is about 100 g, with a wingspan of around 40 cm. I encourage you to feed birds in winter. They will repay you, posing in front of your camera’s lens.

Although I managed to capture many species of hummingbirds, you can find there one description of all 22 species photographed in Costa Rica together. This time my expedition took longer and the light was better, I had therefore an opportunity to take many dynamic pictures. It is interesting that driving around Costa Rica after traveling several kilometers there were species of hummingbirds completely different from those we could observe earlier.

My impressions of firecrests are similar to those of goldcrests. I truly encourage you to read the text about goldcrests too. I pointed out the physical differences between these two species as well as the fact that firecrests leave our country during the winter, wintering is southern Europe or North Africa. What is interesting is the fact that both species lay up to 10 eggs per clutch, which weight exceed the weight of their bodies and it amounts about 5 -6 grams.

Two species of lovebirds, but how different in behavior, at least in terms of shooting. The Fischer's lovebirds were seen several times, even in cities. Regardless of whether it was urbanized area or the savannah, they were very skittish. It was impossible to approach them or drive up. They always kept a long distance. Whereas we found the yellow-collared lovebird only in one place, but the birds allowed us to take photos from only few meters. As it happens with parrots they were quite noisy and it was no problem to record the sounds of both species.
