A few photos of the New Zealand Bellbird have created a gallery on my website and made the bellbird family at tomkalfoto.pl bigger. This, however, doesn’t seem to be the most important thing when I look at the pictures of this bird. When I was photographing in New Zealand I wanted to observe and capture as many endemic species as possible. The New Zealand Bellbird is exactly one of these species which are endemic to New Zealand. These bellbirds reach up to about 20 centimeters in length and about 30 grams in weight.

I don’t know whether I finally managed to capture the beautiful tail of the New Zealand Fantail, which is the bird’s attribute or distinguishing feature, but the bird was very difficult to observe and even more difficult to photograph. It is 16 centimeters long, and half of its length is its decorative tail. When I was on the southern island, in the woods which looked very much like Jurassic park with its tree-ferns and other plants that made it impossible to move through the forest, I photographed the New Zealand Fantail.

This a really beautiful and large pigeon. Its plumage has  so many colours that it is difficult to produce o photography giving justice to its beauty. It is an enormous bird, as it may weigh up to 850 grams. Interestingly enough, the collar dove, which can be easily found in Poland, weighs about 200 grams and is therefore four times as light as the New Zealand pigeon. The bird inhabits both the northern and southern islands of New Zealand. it feeds on fruit and kernels.

Taking such photos of the New Zealand sea lion was possible thanks to using the services of a pleasure boat which took me on a cruise through fjords of New Zealand’s southern Island. Sea lions, which were accustomed to pleasure boats, were basking in the sun not paying any attention to our ship. Males of the sea lion can reach up to 450 kilograms in weight, while the females are much smaller and can weigh up to 165 kilograms. They have been strictly protected as an endangered species since 1890.

It occurs in the Eastern Australia. I managed to take a picture of it in Sydney, but it managed to scare away a withe-browed scrubwren, which had been posing for some time. That's how two galleries were created. Incomplete, regretfully. Actually, the Nobbi Dragon is not big as the length of its body does not exceed 80 centimeters, the tail including. I wish the session lasted longer, as I had good conditions to take many more interesting photos of this beautiful reptile.

The Noisy Friarbird’s gallery is practically the one-photo gallery. Well, there will be also such memorabilia from Australia. The Noisy Friarbird belongs to the honeyeater family Meliphagidae and it is not a filigree bird. The length of its body exceeds 30 centimeters. But most interesting is its head (bare of feathers) from which comes its name (in Polish  its name means “vulture-headed”). I wish I was able to take more pictures of better quality showing a special type of beauty of this bird.
