I cannot remember how many times I have set out „for the green woodpecker”. I had seen it many times, but to take a picture of it was a totally different thing. It is very skittish and perhaps very rare, as while looking for it I had taken lots of pictures of the great woodpecker, the middle one, or the lesser one, but never the green woodpecker itself. The green woodpecker is quite extraordinary, as it eats mainly ants, and it can’t do without formic acid in its menu. It often feeds on the ground, digging around anthills. It does it even in winter.

I was luckier in the case of green-barred woodpecker. Although it never posed for photos, but walking through the park in Buenos Aires I was able to take some interesting shots following it slowly. This woodpecker weight does not exceed 180 grams and the wingspan is less than 50 centimeters.

Although I managed to capture many species of hummingbirds, you can find there one description of all 22 species photographed in Costa Rica together. This time my expedition took longer and the light was better, I had therefore an opportunity to take many dynamic pictures. It is interesting that driving around Costa Rica after traveling several kilometers there were species of hummingbirds completely different from those we could observe earlier.
