During the trip to Antarctica I was able to photograph several species of albatrosses and other birds. While shooting these beautiful, majestic birds I encountered some difficulties. The first was the Drake Passage. When crossing the strait from Ushuaia in Patagonia to Antarctica, even though we could tell that the waters were calm, it did not mean that the ship was upright and was not leaning on one side. Even when the weather was good walking on the deck was a problem.

I had waited to take my first photos of the hawk for a long time. It’s a magnificent predatory bird, and so I really wanted to photograph it. And how did it happen? It was a sheer coincidence. Thanks to the kindness of the owner of some breeding ponds, I and my father-in-law, who is often my companion in photography trips, went to the ponds at night, to a previously selected place. The objects of our photographs were supposed to be common pochards and tufted ducks.

I present to you the bird that photos were in Poland recently taken from all sides probably most often (11/2013) . But popularity and interest aroused with its arrival is not surprising at all. Particularly because an opportunity to observe a representative of this species in Poland and additionally in such an easy way happens extremely seldom. This Owl is indeed "on duty" in Lutobork, where it can be found any time and available to photograph easily.

The northern house martin is similar to the barn swallow in size. It has a weight of about 20 g, and a wingspan of approximately 30 centimeters. This species often builds nests on buildings. It uses mud and grass to build its nest, which is located in a dry and sheltered place. The bird has a flying pattern as dynamic as the flying pattern of the barn swallow. It eats insects caught in flight. Taking the summer inconveniences caused by mosquitos into account, this bird is very helpful in fighting them.

The third species of jacana goes to my gallery. This time the best and most interesting display of jacanas was created on my website. There were several meetings with the northern jacana but two of them in the light of an interesting color. Once I managed to shoot adults with adolescent juvenile. I took so many pictures that it was difficult to select them for the gallery. Here we have some pictures showing the characteristic long fingers/claws of the jacana. Jacana are of filigree physique. Their weight is less than 170 grams and a wingspan about 60 centimeters.

Looking for habitats of the Eurasian penduline tit, walking along a ditch at the edge of a field, I was nearly attacked by northern lapwings (photographed in flight), which flew just over my head. I must have approached their nest, which was located on the ground, dangerously close. The lapwing in „close-up” photography is a good object to photograph. Colorful, gleaming wing covers, a crest on its head and its little bashfulness can lead to taking “impromptu” pictures. That’s the way my photos were taken.

I was always very keen to see the aurora borealis. However, in pursuit of birds the aurora took a back seat. Finally, the opportunity arose when I received an invitation to the trip (that turned out to be perfectly organized) with the intention of watching the northern lights. Witek, I cordially greet and thank you. I also send my greetings to other companions: to Paweł and Jurek, as together we could not only take pictures but also create a nice atmosphere, with a lot of laugh and positive approach what made favourable climate for this difficult shooting.

Last minute news- Dominican Republic – 11/2021

Because of chronic lack of leisure time, despite I had been informed that a northern pintail was seen in Poland in winter periods, it never appeared in front of my camera lens. And finally a nice surprise happened to me while visiting Hel Peninsula in March 16 '- first images of the northern pintail were taken. I hope that more opportunities for a change in this gallery will come in winter, because during their passage and migration better pictures can be taken.
