It occurs in the south of Argentina and Chile. Its weight reaches up to 10 grams. I had a few random encounters with austral blackbirds but this bird is unfortunately very skittish. It feeds on seeds and insects. It often lives in groups. While other birds are feeding, one of them guards the others against predators. In case of a hazard, it warns the others with its loud voice.

Unfortunately I managed to encounter an austral negrito just once and the pictures presented here are too much framed. Nevertheless, I decided to create this gallery in order to show the variety of the Patagonian fauna. Especially that I managed to take some pictures of both an adult and a young specimen. Austral negritos occur in Argentina and Chile.

One short event, but I came across four austral pygmy owls. Unfortunately, as it often happens, the sky in the background, in a word, images of a documentary value. Owls were active enough that I was able to record a short sequence of their voice. Its weight does not exceed 100 grams and it relates to females, males are slightly smaller, their weight is no more than 75 grams. The wingspan is about  25 cm.

It lives in Argentina and Chile. All the photos presented here were taken in Patagonia. It occurred there so commonly that I did not have problems with capturing it, although it always kept a distance, and the photos had to be framed. In its size and behavior it resembles our thrush.

This is an amazing bird. I find it extremely beautiful. Its plumage makes the bird resemble a streamlined hull of a torpedo cutting through waters. I saw it diving easily and moving with amazing celerity. It sometimes emerges from the surface of water, when the bird wants to inspect the surroundings. It keeps the bulk of his body under the water. It is not particularly small. It weighs more than 2 kilograms and is 0.9 meters long. Its habitat covers the entire area of Australian rivers and lakes as well as the coast.

Watching the bird to my mind are brought first associations with the turkeys. Nothing could be more wrong. This is an endemic species and can be found as one of the three subspecies to inhabit Australia. It lives in north- eastern Australia. I wish I was able to see nests built by the Brushturkey. It is hard to overlook them as they are built on the ground and are about 4 meters in diameter and are up to 1.5 meters high. In fact this is a really big incubator. Several females commuted with the male and its nest lays eggs in the hollow of the mound.

Bustards are the species I absolutely have a weakness for, so my news from Australia I start with them. Knowing that I would spend some time in Australia, I had arranged a trip that was supposed to show me this noncommercial, wild and natural Australia. It would be hardly possible and probably dangerous to realize such a trip on my own, but it turn out to be feasible thanks to Hans, who perfectly organized our photography workshops . I mean perfectly. Because in a few days he showed me over 100 species of animals (mostly birds).
