Semipalmated Sandpiper
Charadriiformes
Although the expedition to the Dominican Republic was not organized to photograph birds from the Polish fauna list, but as I am so far away from Poland, it is difficult not to check and not try to photograph birds formally belonging to the Polish fauna. Especially since there are several dozen bird species that are typical species of North America on our list of fauna. There are many such individual statements in Poland, but they ultimately extend this list. Least sandpiper was found in Poland once and Semipalmated sandpiper five times. Bardzo dobre |

Serendib Scops-Owl
Owls
No doubt, without the help of guides this bird cannot be found in the forest by ourselves, as it is very difficult, almost impossible. It is estimated that the entire population of serendib scops owl is only few hundred individuals. The birds live in a forest like a jungle. It is densely overgrown with plants that make it difficult to pass through, and in addition the terrain is mountainous. Every now and then one has to climb and after a while slide down a wet, clayey slope. Dobre |
Serin
Passerine
The serin let me photograph it in allotment gardens. As the bird was used to human’s presence, I was able to take a few pictures of it without special preparation. It is a tiny bird with a yellowish tint. Its weight is about 10 g, which makes it almost three times smaller than the sparrow. It has a wingspan of around 20 centimeters. Bardzo dobre |

Sharp-shinned Hawk
Accipitriformes
Appears only in Northern America. Its size is similar to our hawk. Its wingspan is around 60 centimeters with a weight of around 100 grams. Females are slightly heavier as their weight can even reach 150 grams. I think they are quite common as I was able to photograph them twice in one day, without any masking, in the suburbian area of Montreal. Its attention was caught by much smaller birds, which gathered near the winter feeders. After its arrival and taking the position you could observe the sudden “stillness” of the place. Dostateczne |
