Ochre-breasted Antpitta
Passerine

My output from this family of birds so far is two species, photographed in Thailand and Srilanka (chickadees). So not much. In Ecuador, I managed to photograph 8 species (antpittas)! They are difficult to photograph and without the help of local guides it would have been impossible. The guides had to spend a lot of time beforehand to make them an attraction for observers, photographers. They live naturally on the bottom of a tropical moist forest. They are small, secretive and difficult to see, let alone photograph.

Ochre-Collared Piculet
Piciformes

I have already introduced the biggest woodpecker in Argentina (the magellanic woodpecker), now it is time for the smallest of this family of birds - the Ochre-Collared Piculet. Pictures were taken in the morning, on toco toucan photo session in the surroundings of Iguazú Falls. Because of its small size, it was very difficult to take photos of the piculet. It was always hidden behind some twigs and its filigree body was not easy to locate in plants. But following it quietly I found an opportunity to take a few pictures.

Olive-backed Sunbird
Passerine

I managed to meet the Olive-backed Sunbird a few times, of course always in an area where there were flowers. Unfortunately, meetings were too short to take pictures that fully show the beauty of glossy dark-blue chap of male. Sex dimorphism is well-defined in this species. In the presented pictures you can see both male and female. The chap of the female is yellow and there are not reflective blue feathers on it. Sunbirds feed largely on nectar, although during the period of rearing they do not despise small insects. Basically sunbirds occur in Africa and Asia.

Why the gallery of this species is such a modest one, I have explained in the information on the Cyprus warbler. It is a pity, because there were at least three singing specimens in the bushes. Probably because of the hot weather I forgot my recording set, if this had not occured the sound would have been of better quality than the presented photos.
